The weight of my bike made it hard for them to secure it, or I was terrified it was going to fall off, because I was 888-349-8884 I only tried this one because of the picture of the SUV on the front. I had nothing to lose and I was happy to try it. It fits securely, but they need to provid extra straps to secure it. The 2 bike rack that I have is not enough to hold all the straps. The company said the straps are out of stock. I found them on Amazon and I thought they would offer more. There are two slots that the strap goes through around your bike. Maybe they think that since there are 2 slots for the straps, I still have 1 extra. Its not that simple. The bottom of your bike will rock back and forth if you only use 2 straps per bike. I've used it 4 times so far and it was secure for several hours. It would be great to have a few extra straps since I combined 2 of the straps together to make it long enough to hold a paddle. You can't have a bike rack with only 5 straps.
👤A complicated piece of shit! The instructions are only designed for an engineer to follow. It is difficult to figure out which strap goes where. The rubber part of the strap makes it very difficult to release it from the bike tie down straps. It took to mount the rack because there is no way to lock it to your car, so anyone can remove it while you are out riding.

I couldn't use the included rubber cushion because the rear wheel strap was too long. I found a video that showed that the strap could be moved to a different part of the cradle to make it longer. I looked at the instructions. Yes. I think one of the pictures shows that. Hmm. It was a real challenge to get the lock core into the lock. It didn't want to leave the lock with the key in it. It didn't want to lose the key in the lock. I got the two cores in with a lot of effort. There were two pieces left over from the installation, one of which was a black plastic tube and the other a blank key. The tube is supposed to go into the lock where the hitch pin would normally go, and that blank key is a universal key that you should be able to push into the lock housing. I'm going to buy a different brand after returning the carrier to Amazon. The roof rack foot pack looks TERRIBLE, very poorly designed, and I'm rather disappointed with the fitment and style. It's time to go with a different brand of rack. I was shown another example that brand loyalty is meaningless. I was hoping that you wouldn't fall into this pit of crappy quality products at ever increasing prices, but alas, you are no more deserving of loyalty than any other company. 👤I bought the Proride XT to replace the old Thule Big Mouth. I had no problem installing the rack. My biggest problem is getting the bike onto the rack. The first time I tried it, it took about 4 tries. I was hoping with a little experience things would get better, but it turns out 4 attempts is my best score. The Big Mouth had a deep channel that ran the entire length of the rack. Once you secured the bike with the tire and Big Mouth, you could roll the bike back and forth to position it. The rack has no channel. It has shallow tire receivers that are easy to slide on. You will need to lean the bike toward you so the bike can clear the pedals and frame if you manage to hoist the bike and get them positioned correctly. When I do that, the bike falls on me, I curse a lot, and it's back to square one. There is a What am I missing here? I'm loading a mountain bike, not a road bike. Follow up Oct 8. The female part had to remove parts of the welds to make the fit fit together. The add-on had to be put into the main rack so that it would be difficult to remove. 👤I am not sure what is going on with Thule, as they used to be the standard for bicycle racks. The plastic bits on the Helium platform are what heals this rack. They make up the critical connections with the aluminum trays and they fail/crack due to the required force at the ratchet straps to tighten the bike to the rack...this creates a slight cantilever motion which stresses the plastic that attach to the trays. The mechanism sticks. I have been buying Thule products since 1989 and they are not what they used to be.

I have a trek madone which has an oval shaped top tube and a flatted aero seat post tube. The seat post holder on the rack wouldn't reach the bike's seat tube because of angulation. I used a longer strap, but it wouldn't work in the wind. I looked out my rear view mirror and saw the bike was suspended by the top tube. I noticed that the top tube straps were loose. The cradle is too narrow because of the flattened shape of my top tube. 👤This carrier is no longer happy with them. My most expensive road bike has been damaged by the carbon frame on my other bikes. I should've done research before the downtube clamp hit the frame. I have found that this type of carrier is not suitable for carbon frames. I can't return the one I haven't opened yet because I'm outside the return window. I can only use one of the two carriers that I have. It works well for money and I only used it once. I had to put some tape on the underside of the carrier so that it wouldn't scratch my luggage rack. Some rattling issues were addressed by this. 👤I like this back rack. It came in a big box with well written instructions and assembly went with a hitch. That's right. There are three locks on this rack, one on each bike center tube hook and one on the hitch pin. If you don't have any bikes, it can be folded up on the car. I use a regular hitch pin that doesn't need to be screwed in and the rack feels really solid going down the road. Highly recommended.

The issue I had with the stand was that it sits at a 100-115 degree angle towards the back of the car not allowing a second bike to fit without the handle bar edging the back window of my van. It's crazy. I was going to buy a 7 inch hitch extension to seat the bikes further out from the window. There is a But... On my second local outing with my bike, the turn knob broke free and I didn't turn the screw because I was spinning freely. I had to disassemble my bike to get it out from under the arm which held it. Why was it lucky? The second bike is locked into a lower point of contact because the knob that broke is on the upper arm.
