I have typed travel packing lists and I love them. I can pack in 30 minutes or less. I have a few things I used to worry about forgetting when I would travel that would not be replaceable while on a trip if I were to forget them: my dental retainers, my glasses, and an extra set of contact lenses.
I have lists in google docs based on types of travel, such as:
Overnight to a friend's house
Long weekend in Southern California
Long weekend in Carmel, California
One week in Maui
All of these lists I've made so far can fit most of my types of travel.
Lists are usually broken into categories such as 1) Bath/Personal, 2) Makeup, 3) Clothes, and 4) Electronics. My list for Hawaii includes an Ocean category. Even if the category only has 2 items listed I still keep the category. It works faster for me to have things broken out into specific categories instead of just a long running list.
The list is printed double sided - same list both sides. I mark off each item as I pack it and DONE. I tuck the list in my bag and take it with me, so I don't leave anything behind when I pack to return home. I used to leave stuff behind all the time! I like to use a paper list so I can write notes on it if needed as I pack.
I could probably pack for a week in Maui in about 15 minutes if I had to.
Make a packing list. Keep it handy. You won't forget anything.
