My stupid burn. It reared its ugly head last Friday night when I was sleeping. After getting home very late from the SF Giants baseball game, I was half asleep when I crawled into bed. Thinking how well my burn was healing and how nice the new skin looked, I thought it might be a good idea to sleep without anything on it. The open air would be good for it, I exclaimed. To hell with keeping it covered with some gauze!
Pain woke me up bright and early Saturday morning. I knew without looking something bad had happened. I knew without looking that I had another open wound. And sure enough, sometime during the middle of the night I lost a piece of new skin about the size of a quarter. Pain. Back to the tegaderm. Back to that disgusting build up of fluid under the tegaderm. Yuck! Some days off the bike and some days off from running. No 50 mile training ride over the weekend like was planned.
Two steps forward, and one step back.
Levi's GranFondo metric century is coming up in just over 2 weeks. Although just a metric century, it is one of the hardest rides of the year for me. Frankly, parts of it are kind of soul crushing. I'm feeling significantly unprepared for the climbing. Also, I'm a Course Marshall this year. Thinking about that leaves me feeling even more unprepared. I know I can do the ride - I have another ALC under that chamois. But damn, I really don't want to look like an idiot in that course marshall jersey.

Ugh, so sorry about the burn.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I think the course marshall thing works to your advantage! When you stop and take a rest you are simply surveying the course and making sure people are following the rules. :)
Sorry to hear about the step back :/
